A pristine voice of blunt reason fades, forlorn and deplored,

While commerce’s tempting serpents canker minds with deceit,
In cement rampant Eden’s primal yearn to replete.
Roots wither beneath asphalt’s tarnishing calcined grip,
Lacerated in squalor, soil’s bridgehead for recede,
Verdant breath stived by steel; kismet’s wheel turned awry
When mute ferroconcrete has become our sky.
Mortal coil’s cadency can dodge pestilent brim:
Rescue prodigal souls tingling in neon glim
Descry the Revelation’s trace on steel-grafted land,
Before the last patch of earth slips through progress’s hand…
